In January 2006 D£VON POUND was established as a not-for-profit company to provide a single point of contact in Devon for people with Money related concerns. Access to Money Advice, Banking Services, Affordable Credit, Deposit taking facilities and Financial Education formed the basis for the original Company. In July 2007 the company was re-named South West Pound Limited because of the need for this type of service and desire for the company, and its partners, to see an expansion of the project throughout the region.
Since October 2006, when we first started trading, we have supported over 2,000 people and now get enquiries from between 150 and 200 people each month. We have uncovered around £1.2M of personal debt in Devon alone and supported many to make lifestyle changes to improve their financial stability; we have also provided customers with access to over £350k of affordable loans and over £6,000 each week extra is now being saved in the county with local Credit Unions.
With a plan for graduated growth the company aims to work with our partners and the communities we serve to develop principled financial assistance products and services across the region which tackles financial exclusion at all levels.
